Access to second floor via stairs

And now, a bit of history. Did you know that from the opening in 1889 the lifts have been available to go up the Eiffel Tower? This was a feature never before seen in it’s time, a technical achievement for the already ground-breaking structure. And also, did you know that two of the original lifts are still in service today? They have been carefully preserved and are proof of Gustave’s Eiffel vision.

Originally, the four pillars of the Eiffel Tower where equipped with one or two cabins. Today, there are 3 lifts that are available to the public – North, East, and West pillars – between the ground level and 2nd floor.

If you don’t want to visit the summit of the Eiffel Tower, there are tickets available to take the lift to the 2nd floor, and yes, this will also you to visit the 1st floor. This way, you get the enjoy the beautiful view of Paris through wall-glass doors, and on the 2nd floor there are telescopes at regular intervals throughout the floor that allows a more detailed view of the city.

Fun fact: The annual journey combined from the lifts are equal to two and half times around the world, which means 103.000 kilometers travelled by the Eiffel Tower lifts.
